The Upper Peninsula of Michigan – July 2025 by Kim · Published July 24, 2025 · Updated July 24, 2025 The Upper Peninsula of Michigan – July 2025We took a week to drive from Duluth, Minnesota to Grand Rapids, Michigan along the Upper Peninsula. These are some of the best moments. Our campsite at Presque Isle. We were supposed to stay two nights but rain came hard and heavy.What a beautiful sunset over Lake Superior.Skipping rocks on Lake Superior at Presque Isle Campground.An interesting carving in Wakefield just outside of the Porcupine Wilderness.Breakfast at the Korner Kitchen after packing up our tent in the rain at Presque Isle Campground.The Ontonagon Lighthouse, located near Ontonagon, Michigan was built in 1866.The Jampot is located on a country road on the Keweenaw Peninsual.Homemade jellies, breads and more were on sale at the Jampot.One of our stops on the Keweenaw Peninsula was the Jampot, a very popular bakery run by monks.The Keweenaw portion of the UP, was my favorite. It had trees, rivers, lake views and quaint small towns.It's hard to tell but we have a very high and majestic view from the top point along the Brockway Mountain Drive.Copper Harbor Lighthouse, located on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.A rainy day was a very relaxing opportunity to catch up on organizing all our photos!Our breakfast bagel sandwich at a coffee shop in Houghton.Dale has our computer backpack and we are headed out of the second coffee shop we hung out in that day.We spent a rainy day in Houghton.Pasties are a cultural icon in the UP, with its origins tracing back to Cornish miners who immigrated to work in the copper and iron mines in the 1800s.Our first pasty! It's a savory, handheld meat pie, often filled with beef, potatoes, onions, and other vegetables.A Lift Bridge crosses the Pilgrim River in Houghton.Houghton, located on the Keweenaw area of the upper peninsula, was a beautiful town.We stumbled upon this bakery on the river in Houghton that is known for its pasties, so we ordered one.Our second meal at Baraga Lakeside Inn. We had a good view of the lake.Another lighthouse located in McCarty's Cove in Marquette, Michigan.Dale takes photos of Lake Superior at one of the many roadside viewpoints.Dale enjoys the views of the river.The path around Tahquamenon Falls was very beautiful and gave us the opportunity for many photos of the river.The Tahquamenon River is brown because of tannins leached from the cedar, spruce and hemlock trees.The Tahquamenon River.A beaver did a good job on this tree!The Tahquamenon Falls are a series of waterfalls on the Tahquamenon River, shortly before it empties into Lake Superior.
