Trillium Falls Trail – July 2023

The Trillium Falls Trail loops through a remnant strip of old-growth redwoods located in Redwoods National Park just about 35 minutes from where we are staying. It was a great after-work hike. These are just a few of the many photos I took.

The beginning of the Trillium Trail. It was almost three miles but took us over two hours! We look at everything!

The path passes right beneath this mighty root system.

My explorer stands on the base of a fallen tree.

Dale is so strong! He can hold up a tree with one hand!

A foot bridge passes over the small creek.

A small stream makes a beautiful sight and sound as it meanders through the forest.

A Redwood's roots only go down six to twelve feet, but extend up to 100 feet from the tree’s base.

I thought it was interesting the way the sunshine bisected this tree.

I noticed a small egg shell in the foliage. I guess it fell from a nest high in the canopy.

Paths in the Redwoods feels primeval.

Most of the insides of this tree were gone but it is still living.

The Redwood Forests can get so dark which makes a burst of sunshine seem like a spotlight.

This stand of Redwoods is particularly beautiful with the ferns covering the forest floor.

Damaged and decaying Redwoods can look so gnarly!

Fallen trees provide nutrition for many other types of plants.

California's Coastal Redwoods can live for more than 2000 years!
