Buzzards Roost Trail, Black Hills of South Dakota – July 2025

Our last Monday evening in Rapid City we headed about 12 minutes outside of Rapid City to check out Buzzards Roost Trail, which is listed as a 2.8-mile hike, but we made it into almost 3.5 miles! Ha! The views at the top were amazing.

Dale leads us out on the Buzzards Roost Trail just outside of Rapid City.

Buzzard Roost Trail was a very enjoyable three-mile hike.

A rabbit stays super still hoping we won't notice him in this patch of wild flowers.

So many varieties of wildflowers are still growing in July in South Dakota.

I grew up in pine forests like this, minus the mountains!

Dale is the first to take in the scene while I catch my breath! Ha!
