Hanging with the Js in New Braunfels

Dale and I recently spent the weekend with our daughter Jordan and her husband at their new home in New Braunfels. We were joined by our son and his family as well. It was a great opportunity to celebrate Jordan’s birthday and just hang out.
Once we all arrived on Friday we went to dinner at Guadalupe Brewery & Pizza Restaurant which is located a short drive into the country. We enjoyed some live music and delicious pizza. Their Detroit-style pizza had some really thick crust. You can see me praying in the photo below as baby reaches for Adrian’s pizza. Ha ha! The guy in the ball cap was more than happy to be in the photo! Not.

Saturday morning we had breakfast at a New Braunfel’s classic, Naegelin’s German Bakery, which is supposedly the oldest German Bakery in Texas, dating to 1868. It’s located downtown, which is very charming. After walking around a bit we went to Gruene for even more charm and some lunch. This was my second time the kids had taken us to Gruene and I really enjoyed it. It’s definitely a favorite for many people. I expect as the temperatures lower, the crowds will increase. I wouldn’t mind going again when it’s cooler.

As you can see from the photo above, I was in a prayerful mood the whole weekend. Haha!
Saturday afternoon we hung out at the Sharrick home and laughed as the baby interacted with the pets. Pacho the dog really had her laughing hard (see video at bottom), and Dewey the cat made a pretty good playmate and even encouraged the baby to try and scoot!

That evening the Js cooked a delicious dinner for us, then we celebrated Jordan’s 31st birthday. Dale made some delicious chocolatey cupcakes using the recipe for Bruce Bogtrotter’s Cake from the movie “Matilda”.

Soon afterwards Dallas and his family headed home. Dale and I stayed until the next morning when we left early so we could get back and teach Bible Fellowship at our church. It’s only an hour drive, which is better than when they lived in San Antonio. I’m looking forward to more visits in the future.
