QuikTrip: Veen Observatory

This was our second trip to the observatory. The first was the storytelling night, and the second was the opportunity to actually look through some telescopes!

We arrived at the Veen Observatory near Lowell, Michigan around 9:15pm after resting up from our day in Grand Haven. There were quite a few people there. We had to park down the hill and walk a short ways in the dark. The cacophony of cicadas, frogs and other night-time creatures was music to my ears. Personally, I wasn’t that interested in the observatory but it was great being outside.

Dale jumped right into the action. There were some really large, clear views of the moon and the chance to look at some particular stars.

One of the members of the Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association told us that anyone can become a member and access the telescopes at any time. Dale was wishing we lived here! Ha ha!

We didn’t stay too long before heading home. It was worth the 30-minute drive.
