We Bought a House!

We bought a home in Georgetown! It is good to have a home base again.

Before selling our home in May 2022 we were already thinking about where we’d want to live next. We expected that our travels would help sharpen our focus and expectations, and it did. Though we love many of the places we visited, we both agreed that being near family is better.

I began monitoring a couple of real estate sites months ago and was receiving email updates based on certain criteria. Early in our search we crossed off the desire to build a home on an acre of land, it’s way too expensive. We had a max amount we could spend. So we focused on existing homes. After a few months I began to think the timing was not right and we should stop looking for a while.

All the while I was praying for wisdom. While in Oregon I was studying the book of James and the Lord taught me quite a bit about asking for wisdom and what that looks like. I should do a separate post on that so I don’t forget what I learned.

After a while we made a list of the features we wanted in a new home and prayed about them. I’ve always struggled with asking God for specifics, it feels selfish, but after wrestling with it for quite a while I came to the conclusion that the more specific my prayer, the more easily I can see God’s answer.

Some of the features we were looking for included:

  • Space to host family and friends
  • Bright, airy atmoshphere
  • Two sinks in the master bathroom and a sit-down shower (I’ve always wanted this!)
  • Gas stove
  • Easy to maintain yard
  • Within a couple of hours of the kids
  • Close to a church (preferably our current church)
  • Close to an airport

Our new home meets all of these! We give all glory to God. It’s a 1600-square-foot, single-story home in the Saddle Creek Neighborhood off of Georgetown’s inner loop. It was built in 2019 and has been very well maintained. The owners also left us some very nice furniture, including the refrigerator and a nice washer/dryer set.

You can see photos from the real estate listing here. Almost everything you see in the photos came with the house.

We first saw the house during an open house event on October 21. The following day, after church, we went back to the house with our realtor, Ryan Beardmore. And one month later to the day, the house was ours! I can not say enough about Ryan. He sold our house for top dollar and helped us negotiate our new one. He took care of everything. Ryan and his wife have been friends of ours for many years. So thankful for them.

Now we get to move in and plan our next travel adventure! Ha!
