Fern Canyon Trail – July 2023

One Thursday evening after work we went to Fern Canyon which is a canyon in the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park in Humboldt County. It is named for the ferns growing on the 50-foot high walls, through which runs Home Creek. Fern Canyon is recognized as a World Heritage Site and an International Biosphere Reserve.

The drive to the canyon was beautiful as well. We had to ford a small stream with the car!

You can see a foot bridge to help keep our feet dry.

I can imagine a dinosaur coming around the corner!

What's around the corner? We are continually amazed by God's creation.

Someone needs to clean up all these fallen trees! Ha! ha!

The fern was so soft, almost imperceptible to the touch.

The trail follows the riverbed. Thankfully there were small "bridges" and walking paths that were dry.

The canyon walls were over 50 ft tall. Here you can see where a small waterfall caused changes in the plant life.

Moss clung to branches. Reminds me of the same moss we'd see in North Carolina coastal regions.
