Camden & Saco – October 2022

We enjoyed our time in Maine immensely. Here are a few more photos from our trip.

We did a little Christmas shopping will in Camden.

We had the best seat in the house for lunch. We grabbed sandwich and found a seat near the harbor.

While in Camden we visited Camden Hills State Park. This path was right along the coast.

We drove to the top of Mt. Battie in Camden Hills State Park. This is the view of Camden from the top.

This lighthouse was a few more miles away but still worth the visit.

Our host bought three lobsters and cooked them for us in our apartment. She grew up in Maine but lived a few years in Killeen. Dale and I agreed we probably wouldn't cook lobster for ourselves any time in the near future.

Our neighbor was an alien who enjoyed holding bees captive in little boxes.

We went to the Portland Head Lighthouse several times. It was so close to us.

We had a problem with insects. The windows to the left was the bedroom to our apartment above the garage.

Dale made two homemade apple pies using Maine apples. We gave one to our hosts. Everyone agreed the crumble topping is the best!

Dale and I enjoyed watching the neighbors. Especially Mr. Squirrel, Barry Bluejay, Camilla Cardinal, and our red-headed friend, Mr. Woodpecker.

The farther north, the fewer Chickfilet Restaurants! We found one though and enjoyed our first holy chicken sandwich in two months!

White Mountains of New Hampshire – October 2022

Our third weekend in Maine we headed west to New Hampshire to get more opportunities to see the leaves. And wow! Did we ever! We drove the Kancamagus Highway which is a 34.5 mile scenic drive that is well known as one of the best Fall Foliage views. We also stopped at Flume Gorge, part of the New Hampshire State Parks. It was all so beautiful!

We caught the back side of the color change in this area but it was still amazing.

We usually pack our lunch for our trips. We found this quiet stop facing Mt. Cleveland.

Now that is a hunk!

Pemigewasset River - Pemigewasset means “swift or rapid current” in the Abenaki Indian language.

This covered bridge is one of the oldest in the state. It was built in the 1886. This bridge was built across the Pemigewasset River.

Over time, the rushing waters of the Flume Brook exposed this large outcropping of rock. Table Rock is a section of Conway granite that is 500 feet (150m) long and 75 feet (20m) wide.

Dale got a lot of good video. I can't wait to publish it.

You get covered in mist as you pass by this part of the waterfall.

At the top of the Flume is a close view of Avalanche Falls. The 45-foot (13.6m) waterfall creates a roaring sound as the Flume Brook enters the gorge. The falls were formed during the great storm of 1883.

Acadia National Park – October 2022

I'm still having a hard time believing we are in Maine! In October! At Acadia National Park! God's goodness and beautiful creation is overwhelming. The second weekend in Maine we spend three days seeing as much as we could of the park and Bar Harbor.

There is no way we could capture the beauty of the Maine coast, but I tried really hard!

Twice we ate at a restaurant called Route 66. It was filled to the brim with interesting Americana stuff!

Sunday morning we headed to Gorham Mountain Trail.

Thankfully there are blue paint marks to guide our way along the path.

We made it to the top of Gorham Mountain.

A view of the restaurant. The wait could be two hours or more. We were blessed with about a 30 minute wait.

Jordan Lake Restaurant is know for its popovers. For more than 100 years there has been a restaurant on the shore of Jordan Pond.

Dale and I enjoyed Sunday lunch at the Jordan House Restaurant. You can see the famous popover on the right. It was just okay.

It was a cloudy day but still a great day to be outside.

Dale let me borrow his cap to keep my ears warm. The wind was chilly.

The path was so easy to walk and gave plenty of opportunities to look at the leaves.

You can see the beaver lodge under the yellow-leafed tree. There was a lot of beaver teeth marks on trees around the pond.

You may be able to see how clear the water is. It was beautiful. No swimming is allowed.

After the walk we grabbed some coffee and watched people eat down on the lawn.
