Today’s the Day

In about an hour and a half we will hit the road for our big adventure. Once Dale’s work day is done, we’ll drive to my brother’s house in Rusk County for a short visit, then on to Asheville, NC by way of Little Rock and Nashville. It’s hard to believe that more than three year’s of planning is in motion!

Our stay here in our Georgetown VRBO has been memorable for sure. Both Dale and I finally succumbed to Covid while we were here. We thought we were going to get through the whole thing without catching it. Fortunately, our cases were not serious. Also, it’s been extremely hot – triple digits! But thankfully our accommodations were cool and comfortable.

J has been with us for over a week. As you may have read, we spent last week looking at venues and wedding dresses. She going with us to Asheville where she will be able to visit with her fiancé who lives in Charlotte, NC.

Our oldest daughter and her family are in between homes and enjoying an extended visit with the Rusks out at Lake LBJ until time to move into their new home not too far from the home they sold. It’s a beautiful home and we hope to spend time with them there when we get back to Texas later this year.

Our weekend was a busy one. On Saturday Dale had the pleasure of marrying two young people who met in our Adult Bible Fellowship. We also were blessed with the opportunity to lead them through pre-marital counseling. It was so nice to spend that time with them and to be a part of the wedding celebration.

Saturday evening we had dinner at Dale’s sister’s house. We enjoyed a delicious meal and played a few games.

On Sunday we said goodbye to our friends at Central Baptist. Our pastor called us up at the end of the service to recognize Dale’s contributions as an elder and to give people the opportunity to wish us well. It was both a happy and sad time.

Then we finally celebrated Father’s Day! We had planned a get-together on the correct day, but Covid got in the way. We all went to Mulligan’s Restaurant for a late lunch. Tom and Susan joined us. It was a very nice time and good food.

Our final weeks were not exactly how I had envisioned them but they were wonderful nonetheless. There was so much going on I couldn’t spend time with the grandkids quite as much as I’d like, but there will be time in the future. Hopefully in December they will see so much of us they will be ready for us to hit the road again! Ha!

I expect my next post will be after we arrive at Asheville. It will by July 4 weekend and I’m sure there will be a lot going on. I’ll tell you all about it later!
