Our 28th Anniversary

Today is Saturday, November 27. It’s a cool, dreary day. It’s a good day. We were married on a very similar day 28 years ago in New Bern, NC. What an amazing journey it’s been! And, I expect we will enjoy many more adventures, God willing.

The last two days have been filled with family, food and fun … and today has been busy as well. But right now, at six in the evening, Dale and I are the only ones here. We just arrived home from Lake Belton where we had a late lunch with the Sharricks at their lake home. It was good to meet the parents and siblings of J’s boyfriend. But, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s take a couple of steps back and review the last few days.

J arrived home last Friday so we’ve enjoyed having her with us as we prepared for Thanksgiving. We celebrated Thanksgiving Day with D&A, Tom & Susan, Richard & Carol and Michelle. After enjoying a traditional dinner we settled ourselves in the living room while Dallas and Adrian pulled up their wedding videos on the living room TV. It was very enjoyable to look at the more than 600 photos together. It was a neat way for us all to share and relive our memories of the wedding day. By the time we were done, it was just about time for everyone to go home.

Yesterday was Dale’s Birthday and Christmas Tree Farm day! We were expecting an even bigger group than the previous day. J’s boyfriend was joining us, as well as C’s family. Richard, Carol and Michelle planned to join us later for lunch at our house at 1 pm.

Dale and I rode to Elgin with C, Z and the grandkids. J and J rode with A and D. We could not believe the amount of people at the farm! After standing in a long line we loaded onto the hayride and went in search of the perfect tree. As usual no one listened to my opinion that we didn’t need a huge tree. We ended up with the fattest tree we’ve ever had. I’m sitting next to it right now. We had to rearrange the living room to make space for it!

Adrian and D also picked out a tree. There first Christmas Tree as a married couple! Both trees were loaded into D’s Ram truck and delivered to Round Rock. Once we all made it to our house, we got lunch prepared. We had leftovers as well as pork loin and other fixings.

After lunch we had birthday cake for both Dale and I and Dale opened presents. Michelle had prepared some fun games and prizes that added to the celebration. The firepit was blazing out on the deck but we were all too full for S’mores.

I was telling Dale that if the Lord had asked me to describe the perfect Thanksgiving holiday it would be exactly like what took place. It is always in our mind that we are enjoying our last family events in this home, but we are looking forward to make more memories elsewhere.

Enjoy this quick video I made!
