Timing is Everything.
Our plans for selling the house and hitting the road (aka Moon River) are briskly moving forward. It’s hard to believe that we are really doing this! Dale and I had a good discussion this morning about the best timing for alerting our church family of our plans. We want to give them plenty of time to replace us but we don’t want it to become their first thought every time they see us. We would like to continue serving until we are replaced, then quietly say goodbye (ha ha!).
We have been at Central Baptist Church since October 2000, almost 21 years! Our kids were 12, 6 and 4 years old when we joined. Since then we have been serving in some capacity almost continually. Currently Dale and I lead the Young Adult Bible Fellowship, Dale is an elder and I manage the women’s mentoring program. Each of these three positions will need a replacement.

When we began talking about Moon River in 2019 we set a tentative date of January 2022 as the time to “let the cat out of the bag.” Of course our family and a few close friends already know. We figured that date would give us plenty of time to pray and watch the Lord’s leading. We most definitely do not want to step out of his will for our life. So far everything is on track!
When we began entertaining the idea of selling our home and going on a road trip we were most concerned about our son who still lives with us and Dale’s parents who occasionally need our assistance for home maintenance and health appointments. However, the Lord has graciously provided for all of us.
Our original timeline is still in effect:
- January 2022 – Contact a real estate agent to discuss selling our home.
- February 2022 – Take care of any issues brought up by the agent, then list our home.
- May 2022 – Close on our home and move out.
- June 2022 – Visit with family.
- July 2022 – Hit the road!
It sounds simple but there is a lot of sub-bullets I won’t bore you with … at least not in this post!
