Back to School!

J is teaching an elective course to 6-8th grade students this year.

*Note: I am publishing this late!

Another school year has begun. I always enjoy this time of year, seeing photos of family members headed back to school. When my children were in school, getting school supplies was one thing I really enjoyed. I’ve always loved school and office supplies. It feels like a fresh start. School clothes on the other hand, not so much fun. Paper and pencils are much more affordable than shoes and jeans!

I’m also very grateful for the public school system, especially the dedicated teachers who give so much time and effort to make my grandkids feel welcome and cared for. Our daughter J is a teacher like that. Though our schools are under heavy criticism, there are still teachers in our public school system who are doing their best.

B is ready for first day of school!

Not too many years ago parents didn’t have to be concerned about what their children were being taught. Now it seems that the basics have been minimized and social / cultural agendas have been maximized. C and Z have taken just about every step possible to ensure their children are in a healthy school environment, but there is so much out of their hands. I’m so thankful they take the time to be involved in their kid’s schools.

I can hardly believe A is in 8th grade!

I can’t help but think about where we may be this time next year. If all goes according to plan we will have sold our home in May and by August we should be staying somewhere near Washington DC. I have such good memories of our kids at Gattis Elementary, Ridgeview, Stony Point, and Cedar Ridge schools, but we are no longer in this season of life and I’m looking forward to our next chapter!
