Smith Rock State Park – June 2023

Smith Rock State Park is in the High Desert area so it was much warmer than Bend. The park is know for rock climbing and has more than 1,500 climbing routes! Climbers from all over the world come to climb. Also, Crooked River runs through the park, which adds to the park's beauty.

The High Desert is very different than the Cascades. One day we may be in the desert, the next in a mossy, tree-filled forest.

Dale is shooting a video of himself talking about the park. He will be creating a video of all of our experiences.

The Crooked River lives up to its name.

Smith Park has plenty of trails. I was tempted to get in the river a couple of times. It got pretty hot while we were there.

That rock formation is supposed to look like a monkey.

We took the trail that follows the river.

This home has a beautiful view.

The trail heading up to the top of the mountain is called Misery Ridge.

Occasionally, along the trail, you'll see emergency equipment. Yikes!

The visitor center at Smith Rock is a yurt.
