QuikTrip: Kanarra Falls
We hiked in a slot canyon! Months ago when we were planning this trip, we planned to hike one of the most famous slot canyons in the country “The Narrows” which is located in Zion National Park. We were so excited, but it was closed due to high water. We were disappointed, however, Kanarra Falls turned out to be so good!
Our “quiktrip” to Kanarraville took place a week ago today, which was our last Saturday in Cedar City, Utah. When I purchased the tickets several months ago (they only allow 150 visitors a day) I considered it a small part of the trip. But now I think it was one of the best parts of Utah. The photos speak for themselves.

Slot canyons are caused by years of erosion by water. These dramatic views were located in the last section of the trail in the river at Kanarra Falls. We walked a ways to get to the river, then we walked along side the river, crossing it several times, then we had to enter the water and continue completely in the river. The trail continues but the water was too swift for us. We were asked not to go any further than the first ladder, so we didn’t.

The sun shining through the slots of Kanarra Falls Trail in Utah. It’s amazing how good my iPhone is for taking photos.

You can see the excitement on Dale’s face. Of course his feet were completely numb, but who cares!

Every part of the river was beautiful, and the drama continued to build the further we went. Around every corner it was more picturesque than the one before.
As I type this, we are sitting in a hotel room in Ontario, Oregon, just across the state line from Idaho. We will continue driving west tomorrow until we get to Bend, where we will stay for the next month. Once we get settled, I’ll be uploading photos from our Grand Teton and Yellowstone adventures. It was amazing!
