QuikTrip: Chatlos Memorial Chapel

While Dale was toiling away at home I took the opportunity to go back to the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove. We had attended a dinner and concert there one Sunday evening which I wrote about here.

I went back to get a better look at the chapel and the prayer garden. I was thoroughly impressed with the visitor process they use. I was greeted at the gate by a sheriff’s deputy who checked me in and directed me to the chapel. I parked and made my way toward the chapel where I was greeted by a very elderly gentleman who chatted with me, made some jokes, told me about the chapel and surrounding grounds. He handed me off to his wife of 67 years and another gentleman who escorted me into a small training room under the main chapel where I watched a film. I thought it would be a film focused on Billy, but as you can imagine, it was focused on the Lord and showed Billy preaching and giving an altar call. Anyone who came to visit would leave this room knowing how to be saved. Then I was handed off to another lady who took me through an area filled with photos and facts about Billy, his family and his ministry. I was also exposed to the gospel in this room.

After taking my time going through the room I was handed off to another lady to see the chapel and prayer room, located above the back of the chapel. I was given plenty of space and time to linger. It was so obvious to me that they are very intentional in not only keeping an eye on visitors but also telling them about Christ. It was a very special visit.

Dale and I have registered to attend a three-day retreat her in November. We were unsure of our plans for November, maybe the Lord wants us here for the retreat. We are looking forward to it.
