There and Back Again: A Florida Road Trip

June has come and gone, but not without bringing hot temperatures, humidity and a few adventures.
At the beginning of the month, Dale and I had the pleasure of joining our oldest daughter and her family in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. We drove to Florida after work on Monday, slept in the car in Lafayette, Louisiana, then made it to Santa Rosa around 2 pm.
I had heard Florida’s panhandle had beautiful beaches and it’s very true. The fine white sand, and greenish blue water, was so inviting. The very evening we arrived, after enjoying dinner in Santa Rosa, we strolled along the water’s edge in the glow of the setting sun; and we took a few family photos.

During our time there we spent a day at the beach and enjoyed a three-hour dolphin tour. We saw a handful of dolphins, along with a turtle or two. It was really enjoyable being on a boat with just our family, and a very nice and informative captain named Mike. Carrie and her family had taken the same tour last year got to swim with dolphins!
Overall it was a classic beach trip, filled with beachy goodness, seafood, dolphins, relaxation, and a light sprinkling of pickle ball. But the best part is just spending time with the kids.
Laurel
On our way home we stayed the night in an old Bed & Breakfast in Laurel, Mississippi. This is the town where one of my favorite home renovation shows, named Home Town, is filmed. The couple who star in the show, Ben and Erin Napier, are helping people in their town restore old homes. I love their personalities and creativity.

After arriving around noon, we walked downtown a bit, had lunch at the Pearl Diner and walked around some more. The Napier’s have refurbished three old buildings in town and use them to sell their products. I guess it’s very similar to the Chip and Joanna Gaines in Waco, Texas. We also happened to talk with one of the show’s co-stars. In the evening we attended a blues festival being held just across the street from our B&B.
New Orleans
Our last stop on our way home was New Orleans. It was hot, crowded and loud. We planned to spend two nights there but decided to leave after we finished checking out many of the historic buildings and having lunch.
