A West Coast Sunset at MacKerricher State Park

As we were leaving the beach after sunset, I turned and looked back and grabbed this shot. One of my favorites.

One night of camping is much more affordable than one night in a hotel room. Granted, we do give up some comforts, but sometimes the experience is priceless. That’s how I feel about our stay at MacKerricher State Park.

Some deer greet us as we walk to the shore.

The route down from McKinleyville to Napa, if driven in the most efficient way, takes less than five hours. However, we rarely prioritize haste above experience. Because of this, I reserved a tent site half way into the trip. We did this previously while traveling down the coast in Oregon, and it was nice, but this location was EXTRAordinary!

Dale sets up our tent.

The campground itself was pretty standard and our site just okay, but just over the hill lay the rugged coast of the Pacific Ocean. We explored the shore, watched the seals, saw some deer, had dinner and watched the sunset. It was so good.

We had dinner on the beach. It was chilly and the wind made it hard for our little propane stove to heat our water. We both had beef stroganoff with a dessert of Rolaids. Haha
The sun has just about disappeared. Notice the seals on the rock.
Can you see the starfish and other sea creatures?
