QuikTrip: Cambridge, Massachusetts

After church Sunday we headed just a few miles down the road to Cambridge, which is home to Harvard University. During a previous visit we toured the campus and explored the area. So, for this visit we took it slow and easy as we made our way to some of the sites around the Harvard Square area. The light rain prevented too much exploration anyway. Here are few photos of the trip.

It was a rainy Sunday afternoon when we made it to Cambridge. We had lunch at a burger joint in Harvard Square.
Christ Church was founded in 1759 by members of the King’s Chapel who lived in Cambridge to have a church closer to their homes and to provide Church of England services to students at Harvard College across Cambridge Common. George and Martha Washington worshiped here on Dec. 31, 1775 during the siege of Boston.
One of the tombstones in the Old Burying Ground of Cambridge shows a guy who died in 1692 at age 78. He was born in 1614!
Washington took command of the American Army in this spot in 1775.
The Longfellow House was the home of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and it had previously served as the headquarters of General George Washington.
